:: AboutAbout This SiteI discovered religion-on-the-web in approximately September 1998 while researching bulletin boards for a business project. I was appalled by the amount of Protestant anti-Catholicism throughout the web. I was also heartened by the discovery of the many wonderful Catholic sites out there defending the faith. My greatest internet pleasure is discovering new Catholic sites. The purpose of this site is not to convert Protestants to the Catholic Faith. I don't have the talent for that. Rather, my purpose and hope is to help strengthen fellow Catholics from those aggressive, proselytizing groups who appear at Catholic doorsteps for no other purpose than to lead Catholics out of the Holy Catholic Church. INOCULATE THE FAITHFUL from the wolves, so to speak. I will try to expose the blatant propaganda techniques used to proselytize Catholics and show how Catholics might resist these efforts. As such, this site is written for fellow Catholics. More effective, however, would be to make every Catholic aware of the many wonderful Catholic apologetics sites out there on the web. Single individuals, families or groups of laymen write most of these sites. Even the humblest site has a nugget of gold. With access to these apologetics sites, we Catholics can see the wonderful strength of our Catholic Faith standing firm under full assault by the World. Many sites also contain information on the proselytizing groups most likely to appear on our doorsteps. When that inevitable knock on the door comes, we can just bring up on our computer screens that particular group and our responses. Another thing we might do is pass out literature as part of our own evangelization campaign. We might go about this in several ways:
*NOTE: Before printing or handing out articles from web sites make sure you contact the author of the article to secure permission so as not to violate any copyright law. Pillar of Fire; Pillar of Truth This is the online sample of perhaps the best overall booklet we might use in our evangelization efforts. You may purchase this booklet at the above link. With our own literature handy, when someone at our door hands us their literature we can immediately hand them ours! (That alone will probably take them aback. :-) An example of what I have in mind is contained in this article from EWTN's "Apologetics" Document Library: How My Parish Fought Off An Invasion A Cautionary Note! Although this site currently focuses on those aggressive proselytizing groups within Protestantism that target Catholics, they form only a small fraction of the World's anti-Catholicism. Probably far more dangerous to the Catholic Faith are secularism, materialism, religious indifference, false ecumenism, liberalism, political correctness, "Hollywood" & our own T.V.'s, all of which oppose the Catholic Faith to one degree or another. Keep these forces in mind, as they are probably more dangerous in the long term than that knock at your front door. Thanks...and thank you for visiting! |
About Me
Vatican, May 1976. On leave from U.S. Army Name: SPH (Steve) Religious Affiliation: The "One True Church" ( aka Catholic aka RCC aka "Whore"/"Whore of Babylon" ) Profession: Attorney. Now in Retail with one of my sisters. Location: California How Discovered Religion-on-the-Web: While surfing the web late Summer of 1998 researching bulletin boards for a business project I was involved in with a couple of friends. Now spend way too much time surfing through all of the wonderful Catholic sites; keep discovering new sites almost every day. Personal "Testimony" or History: Born in Utah into a nominal Mormon family. Can remember my Mormon baptism at the age of 8, a dunking in a kind of indoor swimming pool. Remember receiving a plaque with 8 pennies. Remember attending Church a few times with my saintly Mormon paternal grandmother. Moved to California and was introduced to the Holy Catholic Faith at around the age of 10 by my Catholic step-father. Attended Catechism on Saturdays. Would complain that with school every weekday, Catechism on Saturday and Mass on Sunday, I never had a day off. Don't really recall my Catholic Baptism, First Confession or even my First Communion, but I do recall my Confirmation by the Bishop of Sacramento. Step-father was killed in an auto accident just a few years after marrying my mom.. Mom was never very religious in an organized sense, so eventually stopped attending Church regularly...my first "dormant" period. Religious fervor reawakened while attending Junior College in early 70's with the religious movements on campus. My first introduction to apologetics, where I tried to defend the faith as best I could. A very amateur effort. Entered another "dormant" period during law school and subsequent practice in the 80's. Would attend Mass only once or twice a year. But in all that time I never stopped considering myself Catholic and part of the Holy Church, and it seems like I thought of Christ and the Church almost everyday. I'm back now. And I credit the Sacrament of Confirmation for keeping me close and not letting me go completely. Goal: To awaken the sleeping giant of dormant/nominal Catholicism; to stop "leakage" from the Church; to recover every single one of the lost Catholics whom anti-Catholics brag are now in their churches. In short, to begin a new counter-reformation. Really like the idea of using the web to "inoculate" the faithful from the cults. Want to have a Church-wide awareness of the wonderful Catholic sites on the web, down to every parish and Catholic home. Benefit of Discovering Religion-on-the-Web: After long hiatus have now gone back to reading Scripture and returned to the Church more fully. Have a Bible in my top desk drawer. Also, wasn't previously aware of the amount of anti-Catholicism out there. My Best Idea: To put my lengthier debate responses on a page such as this, maybe begin a kind of religious web site myself. (Already being done! Began "Examining Protestantism!" in February 1999. Changed to "Catholic-View" June 2005.) Other: Black Belt Karate. Some Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Jogging. | |
